Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) is the most well known of the Chinese internal martial arts. Traditionally practised for self defence, nowadays most people are drawn to this art for the health and wellbeing benefits that regular practise can bring.
Often likened to a moving form of meditation, the most recognisable part of Taiji practise are the forms - a sequence of slow, continuous and flowing movements. These are designed to coordinate a natural and efficient whole body movement, removing any unnecessary tensions and deviations that everybody picks up throughout their life.
There are five major styles of Taijiquan - Chen, Yang, Wu (Hao), Wu and Sun. We practise the Chen family style.
We have class options suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some previous experience of Taiji. Our classes include simple warm up and whole body movement exercises as well as learning and revising the form. Based near Fareham in Hampshire, with classes in Waltham Chase and Portchester and options of new classes in Fareham based on interest.
